FLUX 3 Max and Seedance 2.5 landed on the same score in Artificial Analysis' image-to-video blind votes: 1138 each. So the real question is not "which one looks better". It is which one fits the shot you are making.
The short version: FLUX 3 Max is the one you iterate with. Seedance 2.5 is the one you use when the shot needs to be long or has to match references. One returns a 10-second clip in seconds; the other runs up to 30 seconds and takes up to 50 reference files.
TL;DR: which one to pick
- You want to try ten ideas before lunch → FLUX 3 Max. Same blind-vote score, a fraction of the wait.
- You need one shot longer than 20 seconds → Seedance 2.5. It goes to 30 seconds in one pass; FLUX 3 Max stops at 20.
- The same character, product or outfit has to show up → Seedance 2.5. FLUX 3 Max takes no reference images.
- You need 1080p → FLUX 3 Max. Seedance 2.5 tops out at 720p on Pilio.
- You want the cheapest possible draft → Seedance 2.5 at 480p, about 23 credits per second.
The scorecard
| FLUX 3 Max | Seedance 2.5 | |
|---|---|---|
| Image-to-video blind votes (Artificial Analysis, Oct 2026) | 1138 | 1138 |
| Time for a 10-second 720p clip (fal benchmark) | ~12 s | ~278 s |
| Duration | 5–20 s | 4–30 s |
| Resolution on Pilio | 720p, 1080p | 480p, 720p |
| Inputs | Text, first frame, first + last frame | Text, first frame, first + last frame, multimodal references |
| References | None | Up to 30 images, 10 videos, 10 audio clips |
| Audio | Always on, no extra credits | Optional, no extra credits |
| Credits per second on Pilio | 39.67 (720p), 67.67 (1080p) | 23.34 (480p), 52.50 (720p) |
For context, MiniMax H3 scored 1140 on the same board. All three sit inside each other's margin of error, so none of them is the clear winner on picture quality.
Quality: a tie means "stop comparing pixels"
A 1138 vs 1138 Elo score from blind votes means people shown both clips side by side picked each about equally often. The confidence intervals overlap, and the board is still marked preliminary, so the scores can still move as votes come in.
In practice, that means you will not settle FLUX 3 Max vs Seedance 2.5 by staring at one sample from each. The differences that change your result are elsewhere:
- How the model handles your subject. fal post-trained FLUX 3 Max for fast subjects and close-up faces. Spinning wheels, flying hair and quick turns are where it is tuned to hold together.
- How much control you get. Seedance 2.5 lets you lock a character's face, wardrobe or a product label with reference images, and lock motion with reference videos. FLUX 3 Max only knows your prompt and up to two frames.
- How many tries you can afford in an afternoon. This is where the two models stop being equal.

Speed: the gap is real, the exact multiple is not
fal's launch benchmark timed a 10-second, 16:9 clip at 720p:
- FLUX 3 Max: 12.45 seconds
- MiniMax H3: 83.26 seconds (at 768p)
- Seedance 2.5: 277.80 seconds
That is where the "22× faster" headline comes from. Two caveats before you quote it:
- It is fal's own benchmark, run on fal's infrastructure. A later chart fal circulated put Seedance 2.5 at about 69 seconds, which shrinks the gap to roughly 5.5×. Either way, FLUX 3 Max is the faster model by a wide margin. Just do not treat 22× as a constant.
- End-to-end time on any platform is longer than raw inference. On Pilio, upload, queueing and delivery add time. Our own 10-second 1080p FLUX 3 Max test came back in about 50 seconds.
Why it matters more than it sounds: most AI video work is not one generation. It is a prompt, a look, a fix, another try. If each try takes under a minute, you test five camera moves in the time one slow render finishes. That loop is what FLUX 3 Max is for.
Where Seedance 2.5 is clearly better
Seedance 2.5 is slower, but it does two things FLUX 3 Max cannot do at all.
1. One shot up to 30 seconds. Any whole number of seconds from 4 to 30, in a single generation, with no stitching. A 26-second single take keeps the same light and the same character from start to end, because there is no seam to break them. FLUX 3 Max caps at 20 seconds.
2. References that hold a character or product steady. Up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips in one request. Images set faces, wardrobe and products; videos set motion and camera; audio sets rhythm. If you are making a product ad where the label has to read correctly, or a series where the same person appears in every clip, this is the deciding feature.

One practical tip from the Seedance 2.5 side: when you mix many references, say in the prompt what each file controls. References that disagree pull against each other, and a 30-second clip gives them more time to drift.
Where FLUX 3 Max is clearly better
1. Iteration speed. Covered above, and it is the main reason to use it.
2. 1080p. FLUX 3 Max on Pilio renders at 720p or 1080p. Seedance 2.5 currently stops at 720p.
3. Sound on every clip. FLUX 3 Max generates native audio with the picture on every clip, at no extra credit cost. Seedance 2.5 audio is optional; also free, but you have to turn it on.
4. First and last frame. Both models support it, but with FLUX 3 Max you see the result fast enough to adjust the end frame and try again.

What it costs on Pilio
Both models are billed per second of output, and audio adds nothing on either. Typical clips:
| Clip | FLUX 3 Max | Seedance 2.5 |
|---|---|---|
| 5 s at 720p | ~198 credits | ~263 credits |
| 10 s at 720p | ~397 credits | 525 credits |
| 10 s at 480p | Not available | ~233 credits |
| 10 s at 1080p | ~677 credits | Not available |
| 20 s at 1080p | ~1,353 credits | Not available |
| 30 s at 720p | Not available | 1,575 credits |
At the same 720p, FLUX 3 Max is about 25% cheaper per second than Seedance 2.5. Seedance 2.5 at 480p is the cheapest way to check a direction, if you can live with the lower resolution. The exact cost is always shown in Studio before you submit.
Which one for which job
| Job | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Exploring camera moves or styles | FLUX 3 Max | Many tries per hour |
| Social clips up to 20 s, 1080p | FLUX 3 Max | Sharper output, sound included |
| Fast action, sports, close-up faces | FLUX 3 Max | What fal tuned it for |
| One continuous 21–30 s shot | Seedance 2.5 | FLUX 3 Max stops at 20 s |
| Product ad where the label must match | Seedance 2.5 | Reference images |
| Same character across a series | Seedance 2.5 | Reference images and videos |
| Matching motion from an existing clip | Seedance 2.5 | Reference videos |
| Cheapest rough draft | Seedance 2.5 at 480p | ~23 credits per second |
A workflow that uses both: settle the look and the camera move with quick FLUX 3 Max runs from a first frame, then move to Seedance 2.5 only when the final shot needs to run past 20 seconds or has to match your references. You spend the slow, expensive generations on shots you already know work.
If neither fits, MiniMax H3 scored 1140 on the same board, sits between the two on fal's speed chart and also takes character references. You can compare every model side by side in the AI video generator.
